ABOUT THE S.S YONGALA
HISTORY.
Over 100 years ago, the Steam Ship Yongala sank in a cyclone off the coast of Ayr, near Townsville. It was one of the most tragic maritime disasters in Australia. Now, the Yongala is home to some of the most incredible life on the Great Barrier Reef.
MARINE LIFE.
After more than 100 years on the sea floor, the Yongala has become an ecosystem that provides habitat for some of the ocean’s most spectacular creatures, including enormous rays, sea-turtles and huge schools of pelagic fish.
THE DIVE.
We’re the fastest way to get to the wreck. In just over half an hour, we’ll have you underwater exploring one of the best dive sites on the planet. Our day trips include 2 boat dives, a Yongala history talk and qualified, experienced friendly guides.
